Shaker Harvester

The Dotan Olive Harvester comprises of a Shaker unit which grasps the tree trunk and shakes it in a linear direction from between 3 – 7 seconds, and a Collector unit which gathers all the fruit that have fallen off the tree. At the rear of and part of the Collector is a belt elevator that discharges the olives into a large bin or optional towing container trailer.

Performance

The nominal harvesting rate is 80 trees per hour. This is based on a 2 tractor operator system where both tractors move forward in parallel with the one operator setting down the Collector unit while the other operator operates the Shaker unit in tandem. After the tree is shaken and the fruits collected, the tractors move forward to the next tree. This is a labor requirement of two people only. There are 3 existing stands on the Shaker and the Collector for optional employees that can help to remove fruit.

The following performance outcomes can be expected during each harvest season based on the performance of machines currently in the field worldwide–

  1. Percentage of fruit removed by the Shaker unit, i.e. fruit that fall from each tree, will be greater than 90 percent;
  2. Percentage of harvested fruit that will be collected by the Collector unit into the bin will average 98 percent;
  3. The maximum tree trunk angle that can be harvested effectively is 15º;
  4. The Shaker Harvester can follow and be adjusted to both hilly and sloppy areas.
  5. Reliability of equipment will be greater than 95 percent.

Fruit and Tree Quality

The following results can be expected during each harvest based on the last few years of machine performances –

    • Less than 1 percent fruit damage;
    • Damage to trees is minimal, with less then 1 percent bark damage;
    • Not one tree has been pulled out of the ground;
    • Less than 1 percent branch damage on primary branches;
    • Secondary branch may occur where the use of sticks is necessary to help remove the fruit;
    • No root destabilization.
